Tunbridge Wells Forum – 24 April 2024
I’ve been a fan of The Wildhearts for quite a few years now so when I heard that one of the founding members, CJ, was doing his own thing, I figured it would be one to watch.
CJ was ably supported by a couple of local bands, first up was All the Above, followed by Spyder Byte who have been slowly climbing through the ranks and put on a pretty great show with plenty of spectacle and energy.
Having played and written with The Wildhearts right up until 2022, CJ has a pretty extensive back catalogue to choose from but he has been releasing solo material since 2007. There were a few tracks from other projects: Go Away and Sitting at Home by Honeycrack and even a Jellys track, Lemonade Girl. Highlights of the set for me, however, were from CJ’s 2023 release Split. Dean McCreadie (no, that wasn’t Frank Turner!) on guitar, Craig Mackay pounding away on Drums and Lee Potter on bass give the band a great classic punk powerhouse vibe with full vocal harmonies and some really great guitar work.
