Margate Summer Series 2024, Dreamland, Margate – 13 June 2024
On a rainy night in June, Cassyette blasted onto the Dreamland stage. Merging modern rock sensibilities with pop, I wonder if some of the more middle-aged Bryan Adam fans who were eagerly anticipating the Canadian singer’s imminent performance were prepared for Cassyette’s energetic vocals. Blasting through tracks from the 2022 album Sad Girl Mix Tapes, The trio jumped from beautifully pretty moments into hard-hitting scream-filled full-on rock. As someone who had not heard of Cassyette before, I now look forward to seeing them gracing the stage of many rock festivals in the future.
I first saw Bryan Adams way back in the last century when he was on the Into The Fire Tour with T’Pau supporting (remember China in her Hands?). If I’m honest, I wasn’t expecting much, but boy was I wrong. Bryan Adams has still got it.
Kicking off with One Night Love Affair and then straight into Can’t Stop This Thing We’ve Started, things were off to a good start. Along with a really cool and quite moving tribute to the late Tina Turner, the hits kept coming with the crowd belting out every word. Of course, there was no way that Bryan could have gotten away without playing Run To You, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You and Summer of 69 and they were certainly highlights for an old boy like me.
It was great to get another chance to see long-time members Keith Scott and Mickey Curry who were in fine form. The whole band was really tight with a great sense of camaraderie. It was a truly a wonderful way to spend a summer evening – even if it was a typically British summer’s evening!
