Eridge Park, Kent – 14 June 2024
Since opening for BB King at the age of twelve, Joe Bonamassa hasn’t sat still. Now on his fifteenth solo album, it was a real treat to see him play in Kent as one of only a couple of UK shows this summer since his Royal Albert Hall shows back in April.
Joe was joined on stage by legendary Hall of Fame keyboardist Reese Wynans, on bass was Calvin Turner, who stayed behind the amps all night but did a thunderously soulful job, Lamar Carter on drums and the incredible Josh Smith on guitar – I mean you’ve got to be good to play guitar alongside Joe Bonamassa every night!
Joe’s playing was truly spectacular to watch, soulful and beautiful to listen to but also blisteringly fast – but without much of the bombastic theatrics that can often accompany fast guitar playing. Throughout the set, Joe, a self proclaimed gear nerd, played on some truly beautiful guitars: Les Pauls, SG’s and 335’s, Telecaster’s and more, and he played those very loudly!
Joe is considered by most people to be one of the finest blues rock guitarist alive today and frankly, I wouldn’t disagree.
