The O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, London – 6 June 2024
Asomvel kicked the evening off with a somewhat brutal assault on the old earholes! I hadn’t heard of them until I looked into the support acts for the evening and my YouTube-stalking served up some samples that didn’t really do them justice – they were loud and heavy in a wonderfully old-school way!
Second on the bill, a three-piece hailing from South Wales were Florence Black. they played a selection of tracks from both of their albums. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to their superbly bouncy melodic heaviness and really catchy tunes then I recommend you start right now! I’ve seen them a couple of times and can’t wait to go see them again – really rather awesome.
Then came The Wildhearts. I thought I’d seen them quite a few times (6?) but compared to what seemed like everyone else in the crowd, I was just a newbie. They pulled out loads of classics: Vanilla Radio, The Jackson Whites, Suckerpunch, My Baby is a Headfuck and even played Greetings from Shitsville which kept everyone singing along all night (what else would you expect) and they even popped out a couple of new tracks. There was pyro, confetti canons, great tunes and a roomful of very vocal super-fans – it was quite a night!
